The National Committee for the Celebration of the Futurist Manifesto was appointed on 20th March 2008 by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, following the requests by institutions such as the Municipalities of Rome and Milan, Azienda Speciale Palaexpo and Scuderie del Quirinale in Rome, the MART (the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art) in Trento and Rovereto, the Quadrennial of Rome, the Correr Museum in Venice, the Primo Conti Foundation in Florence, the Suor Orsola Benincasa University in Naples, the National Library in Naples and the Institute for Philosophical Studies in Naples, which soon were joined by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Angelica Library in Rome.
The aims of the National Committee are to celebrate the 100th anniversary (20th February 1909) of the publishing of Filippo Tommaso Marinetti's Futurist Manifesto in the Parisian daily "Le Figaro", and to coordinate and enhance the spreading of awareness of the exhibitions, conventions, publications, and musical, film and audiovisual events, related to the movement that have been announced or are already in progress in Italy and abroad.
For this movement, which touched every field of human activity, echoed deeply around the world, enjoyed huge international support, and was Italy's most important contribution to the historical avant-garde and to 20th century international culture.
